Many different emotions arise during a competition, especially towards the end of a meet. You can use a Winner’s Circle right after the meet to focus on tank filling during this crucial time.
Get your team into a circle and open the floor for tank-filling comments. You can ask: “Who noticed someone doing something to help our team today?”
You should generally speak last, and be sure to make comments about swimmers who have not gotten tank filling from the others. End with a positive comment about the whole team.
Kids with full Emotional Tanks are more coachable. That’s why it’s a good idea to introduce the Emotional Tank to your swimmers early in the season, and refer to it often.
